Typical tile dimensions
Travertine tiles are commonly 0.5 inch thick. Some tile products are 3/8 inch thick. Read the exact catalogue specification for your selection.
The face size and thickness are separate dimensions. A larger tile is not necessarily thicker.
Allow for the installation layers
The finished floor includes more than the stone. Adhesive, membranes and substrate corrections can add height. Ask your installer to confirm the complete build-up.
Check door clearance, thresholds, drains and adjoining floors. A tile that fits the available height still needs suitable support.
Choose the substrate and setting system
Thin stone tile needs a compatible continuous substrate. The installer must assess flatness, movement and moisture. Tile thickness does not correct an unsuitable floor.
Exterior and wet areas need a system designed for that exposure. A covered porch can still receive rain at its open edges.
Keep tile and paver uses separate
Pavers are a different product format. Do not install thin tile on a loose paving bed simply because the material is travertine.
