TRAVERTINE MART · THE BUYER’S GUIDE

Travertine Paver Thickness

2 minute read Material selection and project planning

Travertine paver thickness must suit the installation. Compare 1.25-inch and 2-inch products with the planned base, load and finished level.

Read the actual thickness

Travertine Mart supplies 1.25-inch pavers and selected 2-inch pavers. Confirm the dimension stated for the exact product.

For a specific comparison, the 16 × 24-inch Premium Select Walnut Tumbled paver is offered in 1.25-inch thickness and 2-inch thickness. Compare the two product specifications with your installer; this example does not establish the right thickness for every project.

Centimeter and inch dimensions are often nominal. Do not treat 3 cm and 1.25 inches as an exact conversion. Ask for confirmation when a tight finished level matters.

Thickness is one part of a paving system

A paver rests on a designed base or a specified bonded system. Weak support can cause movement or breakage even with thicker stone.

Review soil, compaction, bedding, drainage and edge restraints. Include the expected load in the design.

Pedestrian areas and driveways differ

For a patio or pool deck, check walking conditions, transitions and drainage. A driveway also needs an assessment for vehicle loads and turning forces.

Do not assume 2-inch stone is approved for every driveway. Format, stone properties and the full installation matter. Read driveway planning requirements.

Calculate the finished height

  1. Measure the existing levels and thresholds.
  2. Add the stone thickness to the setting or bedding layers.
  3. Check steps, drains and adjoining surfaces.
  4. Confirm the proposed system with your installer.

Compare travertine pavers and the installation guide. If a low build-up is necessary, read pavers versus tiles before you choose a thinner product.

Questions and answers

Is a 2-inch paver always stronger than a 1.25-inch paver?

Thickness alone cannot compare different stones or systems. Check the product data, dimensions, loads and support.

Can I mix different thicknesses in one pattern?

Only use a layout and setting method that produces the correct finished level. Confirm the mixed products with your installer.
