When a paver is the practical choice
A paver can suit an exterior paving system. Sand-set work needs a compacted base, bedding, edge restraints and joint treatment. A bonded installation needs a compatible substrate and setting system.
For vehicle traffic, obtain a separate assessment. A thicker paver does not compensate for weak soil or an unsuitable base.
When a tile is the practical choice
A tile can suit an interior floor or a covered porch with a sound substrate. Its lower thickness can help when you must match an existing finished level.
A roof does not keep every porch dry. Consider wind-driven rain, cleaning water and moisture near entrances. Review the surface finish for those conditions.
Measure the full installation height
Include the stone, adhesive or bedding, drainage layers and any membrane. Check doors, stairs and thresholds. Confirm the levels before you compare prices.

Questions and answers
Can thin travertine tile be laid directly on sand?
Do not treat a thin tile as a sand-set paver. Use the substrate and installation method approved for the selected tile.
Can travertine pavers be installed on concrete?
Yes. Travertine pavers can use flexible mortar on a suitable concrete base. Have your installer check the slab, drainage, movement joints and setting materials. Our 1-year limited warranty includes eligible flexible mortar installations.
