Travertine Pool Coping vs. Remodeling Coping

Standard pool coping

Standard coping forms the pool edge in a new installation or a project where the existing edge is removed. The stone needs full, suitable support.

The chosen width affects the distance from the pool to the deck. The edge profile affects appearance and comfort. Confirm both in a drawing.

Remodeling coping

Remodeling coping has an L-shaped profile. The vertical lip can cover the face of an existing edge. It is not a repair for an unstable pool beam.

Check the horizontal bed, lip depth, existing edge and finished height. A profile that looks suitable in a photograph can still fail to fit the site.

Check the pool geometry

• Measure straight lengths and curves separately.
• Identify corners, steps and raised spa edges.
• Include joints in the proposed layout.
• Confirm whether cuts or special pieces are necessary.
• Check deck levels and the joint between coping and paving.

Coordinate the surrounding stone

Compare coping with the deck pavers. Natural variation means that matching names do not guarantee identical pieces. Color samples help you compare stone tone. A color sample does not show the coping profile or confirm that it fits your pool edge. Check the coping dimensions and edge detail on the selected product and your installer’s drawing.
