LTL shares truck space with other freight. Truckload service uses a different freight arrangement. Confirm the actual load and unloading service.
Understand LTL
Less-than-truckload freight shares capacity with other shipments. The carrier may handle freight at terminals on the route. Confirm the scheduling process and delivery service.
Our LTL description states that the transportation company will call to schedule an appointment before delivery. Keep your contact number correct.
Understand partial and full truckload
Larger orders may use partial or full truckload service. The appropriate arrangement depends on total weight, crate dimensions, route and available equipment.
There is no universal weight threshold that applies to every carrier. Do not use an old weight example as a booking limit.
Compare the complete scope
- Total shipment weight and dimensions.
- Heaviest crate and unloading equipment.
- Residential or business location.
- Truck access and stopping area.
- Appointment or scheduling requirements.
- Any liftgate, forklift or other confirmed service.
Keep three delivery decisions separate
| Decision | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| LTL, partial or full truckload | The freight arrangement for the order’s weight, dimensions and route. |
| Dry van or flatbed | The trailer and equipment access needed to unload. |
| Unloading service | Whether your crew unloads or the confirmed service includes unloading help. |
Confirm all three in the response. The freight arrangement alone does not identify the truck or the unloading service.
Prepare for unloading
A truckload quote does not automatically include a liftgate. A dry van may require a pallet jack and forklift. A flatbed needs its confirmed unloading arrangement.
Read dry van and flatbed requirements and liftgate service. Confirm the equipment against the actual crates.
Review the estimate response
Freight and selected services should be clear in the response. Check optional Claim Service and the inspection instructions.
Use shipping estimate confirmation and the shipping information before accepting the delivery scope.
Questions and answers
Does LTL always include liftgate service?
No. Confirm liftgate as a separate service and check its limits for the actual shipment.
Does a full truckload mean my crew does not unload?
No. Unloading responsibility depends on the confirmed truck and service, not the freight label alone.
