Why choose travertine pavers for a pool deck or patio?

Travertine has natural differences in color and texture. Select pavers and pool coping for the same stone design.

We recommend travertine for its natural beauty and outdoor use. Compare color, finish, dimensions and thickness in the catalog.

Open a product and select “Order a color sample.” Sample material is free; shipping is charged. Compare color samples at your site.

Read how to order color samples before checkout. Use the product specification to check the coping profile and dimensions; a color sample does not establish that fit.

Travertine, porcelain and concrete: material differences

What affects the cost of travertine pavers?

The paver cards show stone prices for each square foot. Pool coping can have a price for each linear foot.

Full-crate quantities can increase the order quantity. Your estimate includes the selected materials and delivery. Installation adds to the project cost.

Buy Now uses available stock. Pre-Order gives a lower material price than Buy Now. Compare its delivery schedule with your project schedule.

Your estimate gives availability, freight charges and delivery time.

Compare total project estimates that include stone, coping, delivery, cut allowance, tax, base preparation and installation.

Check the same scope in each project estimate
Cost item What to confirm
Pavers Named product, thickness, crate coverage and quantity, including the installer’s cut allowance.
Pool coping Required length, piece dimensions, edge profile and unit price.
Delivery Delivery ZIP code, freight charge, site access and unloading service.

How thick are travertine pavers?

Travertine Mart supplies 1.25 in pavers and selected 2 in pavers. The 16 × 24 in Walnut paver has a tumbled finish. It is available in the two thicknesses.

Thickness does not give all the information about load capacity. The stone, dimensions and base must be correct for the project.

For a driveway, review vehicle-load installation planning. A 2 in product is not approval for every driveway.

Can travertine pavers go on sand or concrete?

Dry-set travertine pavers use bedding sand on a compacted crushed-stone base. A concrete slab is not necessary for this system.

Travertine pavers can also be installed with flexible mortar on a concrete base. The Travertine Mart limited warranty includes eligible flexible mortar installations.

Two travertine paver installation methods
Method Base and setting layer Planning guide
Dry-set Compacted crushed-stone base with bedding sand. Sand-set base, drainage and edge planning
Flexible mortar Suitable concrete base with a compatible flexible mortar system. Concrete condition, movement and finished levels

Pool coping is at the pool edge. It has different installation requirements from the deck pavers.

Plan the base, drainage and installation for your soil and load requirements. Good preparation supports the long-term performance of your pavers.

What should you consider for a wet pool deck?

Tumbled travertine gives a pool deck a textured stone surface. Select the finish with your installer and include drainage in the plan.

Slip resistance can change with the stone, finish and surface conditions. Get test information for the selected stone and finish. If you use a sealer, get information about its effect on slip resistance.

Keep the deck clean and remove algae.

Which colors work well for a barefoot pool deck?

In Travertine Mart’s experience, light colors such as Ivory and Ivory Swirl feel only mildly warm underfoot in the sun. Compare samples at your site.

Light-colored paving can absorb less solar energy than dark paving in the same conditions. Compare samples in sun and shade at your site.

Do travertine pavers need sealing?

No. Travertine Mart supplies travertine pavers without a sealer. You do not have to seal them. The choice is yours.

If you want added stain protection, you can use an impregnating sealer. It does not prevent all stains or damage from acid.

Use a compatible neutral stone cleaner. Do not use vinegar or cleaners that contain acid.

If you use a sealer, use its maintenance instructions.

Can you use travertine around a saltwater pool?

Yes. Travertine can be used around a saltwater pool. Select the stone and installation system for that use.

Salt deposits and pool chemicals can damage stone. A sealer does not prevent all saltwater or chemical damage.

Before you send an order, get saltwater care information from your installer and stone supplier. If you use a sealer, get information from its supplier.

The Travertine Mart limited warranty does not include saltwater or chemical damage.
