Hardscaping – or the offshoot of landscaping that involves paved areas – is becoming more popular across the country as homeowners look to bring more of the comforts of home to their yards. There are many different elements of hardscaping, as well as several trendy features that have surfaced in 2013. Outdoor living rooms
In particular, many of today’s homeowners are interested in creating what are essentially outdoor living rooms in their yards. This is often accomplished by taking advantage of backyard patio design and using artistic pavers to elevate the appeal of the space.

According to the 2013 Residential Landscape Architecture Trends survey conducted by the American Society of Landscape Architects, 97 percent of survey takers rated fire pits and fireplaces as somewhat or very in-demand.
Many of these people are also looking for a space that’s attractive, as they’re perfect for hosting guests. As a result, they’re moving away from traditional concrete and opting instead for natural pavers that come in a wide variety of colors to complement any backyard patio design.
Pool decks
Finally, today’s homeowners are becoming more interested in using pavers for their pool decks rather than concrete slabs, which are much harder to maintain over time. If a paver gets cracked or breaks, it’s easy to replace it, but the same can’t be said of concrete.
