Do you feel as though the outside of your home could look more inviting to guests? If so, you may want to consider making a path leading up to your door using travertine pavers. These natural stone pavers will help your guests feel welcome – and they’ll keep people walking along a path rather than all over the grass that you spend so much time tending to. Of course, this beautiful path made with artistic pavers may not be enough to improve the outside look of your home if the paint on your door’s cracked and fading.
Your front door is the first thing that people will notice when they come to visit, so it should make a statement about you and your family. Here are some tips for how to make your door stand out.
1. Pick the right color
This Old House magazine explained that gone are the days when people only had brown, green or white doors.
“People are starting to branch out,” Amy Wax, an architectural color consultant, told This Old House. “They realize the color of the front door introduces the world to the people inside, and it can be unexpected and playful.”
Think about what colors make you feel happy, and consider picking one of them for your door. For example, DIY Network recommended trying out a turquoise, bright yellow, red or orange. If you really want to be unique, consider going for a wild color like pink or purple – remember, if you don’t like it, you can always paint it again, so don’t be afraid to try something new.
2. Create a wreath
If you think wreaths are just for the holiday season, you’d be wrong. You can purchase or make your own wreaths to represent each season of the year, and these can serve as great decorations for your door. For example, you can purchase a plain woven wreath that hasn’t been decorated yet, and then add flowers or plants to it that are seasonal. Consider making a fall wreath that features some of the colorful leaves that you’d find on autumn trees. You can purchase fake leaves from your local craft store so you don’t have to worry about them drying out and crumbling. You can also purchase small fake apples and glue them to a wreath to go along with the fall theme.
3. Add a door mat
Door mats are a great way to welcome people to your home, and can also serve as a place where people can wipe their feet to keep your carpets clean. You can get the classic mat that says “Welcome” on it, or you can look for more whimsical ones that have images of things your family loves on them, such as cats, dogs, flowers or even your favorite cartoon characters. Also, remember that door mats can be made out of a number of materials, from rubber to coconut fiber, so keep that in mind.
