Fall is almost here, and it’s time for you to start thinking about how you want to get your home ready for this season. For example, has your driveway seen better days? If so, you may want to consider installing travertine pavers to serve as your driveway before winter arrives. The last thing you want to do is get stuck shoveling a cracked, jagged driveway, which is why you should incorporate natural stone pavers into your driveway just in time for fall.
Once you’ve tackled the outside of your home, it’s time to make changes to the inside as fall arrives. Fall brings with it some of the most beautiful colors of nature, and you should use them as inspiration in your decor.
“When I think of fall, I think of materials with warmth and texture, like woven wool, cashmere, leather and wood,” interior designer and prop stylist Lauren Nelson recently told the San Francisco Chronicle. “And color palettes with lots of earth tones and neutrals. I particularly like the combination of walnut wood with aged brass and accents of deep orange and navy.”
Decorating for fall
The news source also spoke to interior designer Grant Gibson, who said that in the fall he likes to make his home as cozy as possible to prepare for winter. One way he does this is by getting a lot of candles. These candles not only allow people to experience some of the smells of fall – such as apples and cinnamon – but they can also provide some warm lighting for a chilly fall evening.
He added that in the fall and winter, people often like to curl up with a nice book. Books can not only be entertaining, but they can also serve as decorations. Consider heading to antiques stores to look for great old, hardcover books that are good reads and gorgeous.
Martha Stewart Living magazine recommended that as fall arrives, you should look to the harvest for decorating inspiration. Fallen leaves, branches, pinecones and even apples, pumpkins and seasonal fruits can make great fall accessories in your home – so consider picking up some authentic natural items, or even high-quality fake ones that can look just as good as the real thing. Remember, wreaths aren’t just for your front door, so consider using these natural items to create a beautiful wreath for your dining room or kitchen.
