How to make your driveway more memorable using travertine pavers

When’s the last time you took a good look at your driveway? If you haven’t given this feature of your home any attention recently, chances are it could use some work. Instead of re-paving your driveway, you could always use travertine pavers to make it more functional and memorable for guests.

Travertine pavers are perfect for driveways because they provide plenty of traction for tires, resist staining when properly sealed, are easy to replace and offer a unique, attractive look that will take your home’s curb appeal to the next level. Plus, there are many different colors to choose from, meaning you’ll easily be able to find natural stone pavers that complement your home’s exterior.

But how exactly can you design your driveway so it’s most memorable for guests? Consider these ideas.

Arrange an eye-catching pattern

The best thing about travertine pavers is that each one is different. This means it’s simple to create a dynamic pattern that uses the stone’s natural lines and colorings for an attractive effect. For example, you could alternate between dark and light pavers to create a checkerboard pattern, or arrange the pavers in a way that allows the colors to gradually fade into one another.

Get creative with placement

There are more ways than one to design a driveway, and you don’t have to use pavers to cover the entire surface if you’re looking for a more unique look. Houzz.com featured one driveway that took advantage of spaces in between each paver to grow grass for a checkerboard effect. You could also consider creating two lines of pavers that line up with a car’s tires, then grow grass in between the paved strips for runway-like flair.

Use different pavers to make a border

For more visual appeal, you may want to consider creating an attractive travertine border on your driveway. You might want to use a slightly different color of travertine pavers in your design, or go with smaller pavers. Either way, you’ll need to do plenty of planning during the travertine installation process to make sure that your design will fit into the allotted space. It may help to create a drawing of the area beforehand to help designate where each paver should go.

Complement the travertine with plant life

To make your front yard more scenic, it might be worthwhile to add more plant life to the area along your driveway. A gorgeous garden on either side of the driveway will turn the strip of pavers into a scenic tour route that will captivate anyone who visits your home.

Houzz suggested using a cobblestone edging on the edge of the driveway to prevent soil from the garden from spilling over into your driveway and keep runoff at bay. It will also provide a vertical surface that’s good for planting flowers or shrubs against.

However, you don’t have to add flora that close to your driveway. Simply placing a few small trees or a few flower beds along the route but set farther back can still offer a fabulous view for guests.
